Artist Statement

Art has always been my sanctuary—a place where I can explore creativity and express in solitude what is going on in the inside to cope amid life's challenges. My intent and purpose as an artist revolve around connecting art to make a positive impact. Through my work, I aspire to inspire others and foster a sense of connection and support, drawing from my personal experiences, particularly related to mental health.

My love of art began at a young age, starting from earliest memories of around five years old when I spent time with my Opa who taught me how to draw roses. I found peace in the solitude of drawing al fresco at their Kelowna orchard, being immersed in nature drawing still-life’s. Those early moments, spent with raw charcoal and oil pastels in hand, were transformative; they nurtured my spirit and provided an outlet of creative flow. No matter where I was or what I was going through, I could have my sketchbook with me.

My passion for art and design was further garnered over my life being inspired by the artistic genes within my family—including my Aunt who studied couture in Paris and designed couture for Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Ave in New York City, and Great Aunt, a designer, who founded Sunice in Calgary in the 1970’s.

Now, as a mother, my children are my driving force for making a positive impact in the world—however small—and motivating me to create art that connects and inspires, reminding myself and others to try to view going through difficult human experiences and struggles through the lens of being planted and not buried.

As I share my work, I aim to cultivate an understanding that art is not just a visual experience but a means to connect community. Each piece I create reflects my commitment to using art as a form of expression, healing, and ultimately, as a tool to make a meaningful difference in the world. I appreciate the support of my family, friends, and community along my artistic journey and career, and look forward to connecting the dots together in the future.
